Minor Bleed: 15-20 u/Kg

Major bleed: 40 u/Kg

Expected response: 1 u/Kg = 1.5% rise FIX level.

Half-life FIX: 16-24 hr.

For serious bleeding FIX assay may be required to monitor response to infusion.

Inhibitor assay from Haemophilia Centre may be important to guide therapy.

The Haemophilia Treatment Centre physician chooses which product is best for each patient. Please follow recommendations.

Plasma-derived FIX concentrates are treated with solvent/detergent to inactivate viruses.

-- Prothrombin complex concentrates (PCC) also contains factors II, VII and X.

-- Specific FIX concentrates contain only FIX.

NB: thrombosis or disseminated intravascular coagulation may occur with frequent or large doses of PCC.
